ArenbergkasteelBezoek de fraai ingerichte salons van dit monumentale kasteel, dat midden in een prachtig park ligt. Vele eeuwen huisden er edellieden, maar vandaag komen er in het kasteel vooral studenten en personeelsleden van de universiteit over de vloer.

BAC ART LABDit gebouw van de Leuvense architect Augustin Van Arenbergh werd aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw opgetrokken voor het Instituut voor Bacteriologie. Decennialang werden er geneeskundige serums ontwikkeld. Sinds 2016 functioneert het als werkplaats voor hedendaagse kunsten van KU Leuven, met onder meer verschillende ateliers voor studenten en personeelsleden.

Campusbibliotheek ArenbergVerscholen achter een hoge muur ligt langs de Willem de Croylaan in Heverlee nog een parel van het universitair erfgoed. Die werd gebouwd in de eerste helft van de zestiende eeuw als Celestijnenklooster, maar aan het begin van de eenentwintigste eeuw door de gerenommeerde Spaanse architect Rafael Moneo omgevormd tot high tech bibliotheek van de groep Wetenschap & Technologie van KU Leuven.

Hollands CollegeMet zijn prachtige kapel, bibliotheek en wintertuin is dit zonder meer een van de mooiste en best bewaarde colleges van de Leuvense universiteit.

KartHuisNa een grondige restauratie en de toevoeging van een nieuwbouw werd het oude kartuizerklooster van Leuven onlangs omgevormd tot KartHuis, een multidisciplinair centrum voor kwetsbare kinderen en hun families.

Museum voor dierkundeGlazen bokalen met dieren op sterkwater, dierenskeletten en opgezette dieren – je vindt het allemaal in de zoölogische collecties van de universiteit. Een gids vertelt je graag over de geschiedenis van het museum en over een aantal opmerkelijke collectiestukken, zoals het gigantische walvisskelet dat als het ware boven de vitrinekasten zweeft.

SpoelberchmuseumDe kinderloos gestorven burggraaf Charles Victor de Lovenjoul legateerde aan de Leuvense universiteit een prachtige kunstcollectie. Een gids toont je graag de mooie familieportretten, stillevens, schrijfkabinetten en andere fraaie stukken uit deze collectie, die te bewonderen zijn in de voormalige refter van het Heilige Geestcollege.

Thermotechnisch InstituutIn een grote zaal vind je een indrukwekkende collectie van stoommachines, straalmotoren en andere elektrische apparatuur, die in het verleden diende voor de opleiding van ingenieursstudenten. Bezoek met een gids dit uniek staaltje industrieel academisch erfgoed.

Erfgoedwandeling ArenbergparkIn het interbellum kwam de Leuvense universiteit in het bezit van het Arenbergpark. Zij bouwde er, naar Amerikaans model, een grote groene wetenschapscampus uit. Groot BegijnhofTijdens de wandeling ga je op verkenning door de pittoreske straatjes en langs de fraai gerestaureerde huizen waar vele eeuwen een leefgemeenschap van religieuze vrouwen gevestigd was. Sinds de jaren 1960 is het Begijnhof eigendom van de universiteit en sinds 1998 is het erkend als UNESCO Werelderfgoed.

Arenberg Campus LibraryHidden behind a high wall along Willem de Croylaan in Heverlee lies another gem of the university’s heritage. It was built in the first half of the 16th century as a Celestine monastery, but transformed at the beginning of the 21st century by renowned Spanish architect Rafael Moneo into a high-tech library of KU Leuven’s Science, Engineering & Technology Group.

Visit the nicely decorated salons of this monumental castle, set in the middle of a beautiful park. For many centuries the castle was the home of noblemen, today it is mainly visited by students and university staff.

BAC ART LABThis building by Leuven architect Augustin Van Aerenbergh was designed for the Institute of Bacteriology in the late nineteenth century. For decades, medical serums were developed there. Since 2016, it serves as KU Leuven's contemporary art workshop, with several studios for students and staff.

KartHuisAfter a thorough renovation and the addition of a new building, the old Carthusian monastery in Leuven was recently transformed into KartHuis, a multidisciplinary centre for vulnerable children and their families.

Museum of ZoologyGlass jars with animals in formaldehyde, animal skeletons and stuffed animals - you can find it all in the university's zoological collections. SpoelberchmuseumViscount Charles Victor de Lovenjoul, who died childless, bequeathed a magnificent art collection to the university of Leuven. Grand BeguinageDuring the tour, you will explore the picturesque streets and the beautifully restored dwellings that housed a community of religious women for many centuries.
